Heart of Darkness

Acrylic on paper (my sketchbook, actually). This painting is a little reference to Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Great book. Speaking of which, so is "Unconsoled" by Kazuo Ishiguro. Actually, the latter is even better than the first.

Okay, I'm at one of those stages in my life where I've taken a step back, looked at my art, and winced. This has happened to me three times, so far. I guess it can be a good sign, because more likely than not, that means you're improving. However, it's still extremely depressing. The time I've been away from DA, I've been doing intense work for my applications to art school - and I think I've changed a lot. I mean, honestly, I'm actually now really attached to traditional art, and I don't think I've drawn anything remotely anime or manga-ish for these past months. This piece is the first one right now in a while that's done in that style.

But I still want to be a manga-ka! It's a really weird feeling, now... I originally wanted to go for an Illustration major, but now I'm seriously considering Fine Arts. It's insanely fun. Hopefully, posting lots of fanart on DA will kill this mood.

Alright, I don't want to turn this into some kind of diary entry (though it's almost there) because I normally find those a bit irritating, so I'll stop here.
